Ionisation process in gasses (photo ionisation process)
Ionisation process (photo ionisation):-
Introduction :-
This process works on the bassists photo electric effect
When ejected electron from the metal surface then formed the metal positive ion and in this process used of the light (hv).
Process :-
When a beam of mono energetic photon is directed an atom then loss of electron take place.
Metal is the resulting ion formed with internal energy E and electron is the product of photo electron.
E (eternal) equal to zero means that the ion is formed in the ground state .
If energy of photon (hv) is know a simple determination of kinetic energy of photo electron directly provides the ionisation potential of the sample to from its own in a certain internal energy state .
If the photon energy is sufficiently high it can remove other electron which are tightly bound producing the ion of the species.
Hence the process ejection of an electron and the measurements of its energy is known as photo electron spectroscopy.
