L-S coupling and term symbol

L-S coupling and term symbols :-
                                                          The interaction between orbital angular momentum with spin angular momentum is called L-S coupling.
Due to L-S coupling a new quantum number generated.
As we know a molecule contain two or more than two atom and contain many electron due to the orbital angular momentum of electron orbital angular momentum is generated it is denoted by L -factor , if we have two and more than two unpaired electron.
Then angular momentum various of coupling with each other This type of coupling is called L-L coupling .
Due to the L-Lcoupling a new vector is called generated which is represented by L and it is known as total orbital angular quantum number.
Due to the rotation of electron on its existe spin angular momentum is generated it is denoted by S
If coupling of two spin angular momentum take place than it is known as s-s coupling
Due to the s-s coupling a new vector S is generated that is called total spin angular quantum number.
L = l
S= 2s+1
If coupling take place between total quantum number  (L) and total spin quantum number  (s) issue called spin quantum number
It is called also R-S coupling.
R-S= ruzell - sanders
Term symbol :-
                                    (2s +1)
Where-              S= n/2
               n= unpaired electron
   Symbol =     (2s+1)Lj
