Molecule is three types
1. Linear molecule:-
Linear molecule have three axis of rotation
About the molecular axis
End over - End rotation in the plane of the paper.
End over end rotation perpendicular plane of the paper.
The rotation about molecular axis will involved much lower moment of inertia .
Since only the electron will contribute to the motion.
As an approximation the moment of inertia about molecular axis is taken as zero that is Ia equal to zero the moment of inertia about the axis are the same Ia = Ic.
2.Symmetric tops:-
Symmetric top molecules have equal moment of inertia about two axis of rotation.
While the moment of inertia about the remaining axis is not equal to either of the other two moment of inertia.
When a molecule passes moment of inertia Ic equal to Ib greater than Ia.
That is Ia is the axis of smallest principle moments of inertia.
It is referred to as a prolet
Oblate :-
When the moment of inertia of a molecule follow the pattern
It is referred to as an oblate (disk and knob shaped).
3.Spherical tops:-
Spherical top molecule have all the three moment of inertia equal that is la = Ib = Ic.
This type of molecule not possess permanent dipole moment.
4. Asymmetric tops:-
These moleculewhich a majority have all the three moment inertia different .
