Metal ligand vibration

Metal -ligand vibration :-
The vibrational spectra of complex consist of bands due to ligand vibration metal ligand vibration and also due to lattice vibration, when the spectra spectra are measured in solid state .
Vibration involving metal-ligand stretching and bonding modes genraly appear in the low frequency region.
This is due to the relatively heavy mass of the metal and weak nature of metal-ligand bond
Metal ligand linkage frequency of vibration decreases as the mass of halogen atom increases.
Factor effecting metal ligand vibration :-
Greater the mass of the metal higher the co-ordination number of metal smaller is the frequency of the vibration.
Observed that the frequency of scattered light  (Vs) was equal to the frequency of incidents light  (Vi).
This type of scattering light in a transferred medium without any changes of incidents light is called Rayleigh scattering.
When the beam of light on scattered on a transfer medium then a small amount of radiation is scattered.
